The Ring Part: One. The Walk

"I can walk this far from here."The two stop at the top of the hill. Below, her house stood. A sign of the end.She turned to him. Slipping the ring from her finger she said "You can keep this. I seem to have no need for it anymore."Confusion registered on his face. "But why?"She started walking down the grassy hill, sweeping her hands around her she turned back. "It's a sign that you own me. Obviously, you no longer do. Obviously, you no longer have need for me. Obviously you no longer want me."The words stung like a slap in the face. "You can keep it." she said softly. "Give it to the girl you really want. The one you need." With that she turned around and never looked back.
